This is our final video and my last post, Mirrored-Past.

Comparison between our original video and our new one

In order to receive a good mark and have a back up in case we wanted a change, we decided to make two openings with different ideas and different story lines. We had many changes to make for our final video however, according to the audience feedback our Second opening (our current one) was better than our original one.  We were told the camera work, editing and storyline was much better than our original movie even though the pair had their good parts.  Our first movie was about a girl who was haunted by her past life and this caused the death of two teenagers, although we used the enigma code in this movie also, our audience feedback said that the original had bad camera work and an unclear confusing storyline that wasn't understood within the opening whereas our current video was said to have effective camera work as well as a storyline that started off confusing yet became clear throughout the opening and ended with a cliffhanger which everyone thought was very effective. We decided to keep our title credits and our production company logo as we thought that these were also very effective and were edited at a good standard. We also completed pre-production for both of our movies but when we decided to stick with our new opening we kept the pre-production of this opening.

Plot Synopsis

Mirrored-Past is a Supernatural Thriller starring Deniz Arslan as Alex Berry, Sofia Ng as Aurora & Daniel Yip as Tempus about a teenager who must travel back into time after seeing a premonition of his friend being killed in order to attempt to change a fixed point in time and change the past. Will he succeed? Or will he face a bigger problem than he anticipated and have to face the consequences of his personal gain?

Looking back at your preliminary task (the continuity editing task), what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

Within my preliminary task I began to edit on programs such as Final cut pro and adobe after effects, this allowed me to have experience when creating my Thriller opening, this also allowed me to feel comfortable to edit sounds and camera angles together within these programs, since the preliminary task I have been able to create a more effective use of editing in order to make credits and add special effects.

I have improved a lot, as even our costumes were wrong within the preliminary task. for example on our first take we realized that some of the character's clothing and hair styles changed within the scenes, we used some of the shots that we used within our preliminary task, however I think that we used the angles more effectively, for example using the P-O-V shot within the preliminary task was done very shaky as we used a handheld camera which wasn't good quality, in our Thriller opening we decided to use a HD camera in order to have good quality as well as a tripod to keep the pod shot still.

We also animated the credits and added extra objects and linked this to the storyline rather than the credits being blank and just scrolling down like it does on the preliminary task. We had music in our preliminary task, however the music didn't really suit the storyline and wasn't really in synch. In our main task I think that we used music quite effectively as we placed it to cause a dramatic effect and to make the scene seem more tense. We made sure to keep using the 180 rule in which we learnt from our preliminary task this allows the editing to go smoother.

These were all things that we did wrong in our preliminary task and we took account of these and used it to make our thriller opening better.
