Director Case Study: Sam Raimi

The director I have chosen to write about is Sam Raimi, born in Michigan and aged 52. He is best known for the creation of films such as Spider-Man 3, The Evil Dead & Xena: Warrior Princess.  He is a director/producer/writer and actor.  Raimi is said to be among the best directors of the Thriller genre and has created many titles of this genre. He usually makes hybrid genres where he uses a mixture of sub-thriller genres such as Supernatural Thrillers or Psychological Thrillers.

The Gift:
The gift is a film directed by Sam Raimi.  This film is of a sub-thriller genre. It's a Supernatural Thriller.  The film was made in 2000 and has had 8 nominations altogether. The film revolves around a woman with supernatural powers that allow her to have premonitions of the future and see into the past. She is asked to help a young woman who has disappeared which gets her into more and more trouble along the way.

Drag Me To Hell:
This film is also directed by Sam Raimi, again it's a Supernatural Thriller as well as a Horror being a Hybrid genre. The film was produced in 2009 and is about a loan officer who kicks out an old lady from her house receiving a supernatural curse. Evil forces begin to work to push her to breaking point but she must seek a seer in order to save her soul.

A Simple Plan:
The genre of this film is supposed to be a Criminal Thriller. Produced in 1998, it's about two brothers and a friend that manage to find $4 million within the cockpit of a plane that has crashed. As the pilot is dead and nobody seems to be looking for the money they see no problem, to keep the money they just have to wait...But it isn't that simple.
